"All About Herbs" Course Curriculum
April 3, 2012 - June 14, 2012        Two Options for attending
Tuesday 10am - 4pm & Monday 10am- 2:30pm  OR
Tuesday & Thursday Nights 6pm - pm (*this will allow for flexibility in selecting dates)
*Course outline may be changed to meet needs of weather and/or instruction order to better your learning. Example would be
using almanac for best planting dates, weather or field trips.

Supplies you will need to purchase:        (Please have Notebook & 2" Binder 1st day of course - other items can wait)
1- 2" 3 ring binder
1- Hardback Notebook/Journal (Boarders Bookstore has an array of many colors for $3 to $5)
1- Markers, crayons and/or colored pencils
1- 3" 3 ring binder

Lesson 1 History         
What defines an herb and their history to how they are being used today. By the end of this course you will have a
good solid knowledge about herbs and how woman have played a part. If you don't appreciate them already, you
will love them even more.

Lesson 2 Culinary     
How herbs benefit your health in food, how to prepare them and keep an ongoing group year round at your access
for cooking. When to put herbs in your dishes and enjoy a few while you learn. How to prepare Vinegars, Dressings
and spices for a later day.

Lesson 3 Herb Gardening        
Planning an herb garden for in ground, growing edible flowers & herbs for in ground and containers.

Lesson 4 Container Gardening     
Create a herb container to take home to use, starting seedlings at home and soil preparation for guaranteed
germination too
.

Lesson 5 Nutrition        
Benefits of growing herbs, understanding basic nutrition and keeping the harvests coming year round and
identifying wild edibles.

Lesson 6 Our Bodies Science        
An brief overview of anatomy and how it all works. At the end of this lesson you will have a firm understanding of
the digestive process, maintaining a healthy heart, protecting your liver, strengthening the immune system and
keeping the digestive system humming regularly.

Lesson 7 Medical Herbs        
Which ones to use for certain ailments and why. By the end you will know how they are used in the US today and
become more proactive to better your own, your family and your pets health naturally. Using Aromatherapy and
combinations.

Lesson 8 Natural First Aid    
By now you will well have learned about many herbs, plants and their usage and prepared to create your own first
aid kit to use at home, camping and vacations. Create a quick reference file and keeping your kit stocked.

Lesson 9 Natural Body Care & Cosmetics        
Make herbal treatments at home that are completely natural, safe and some are edible; from deodorant, masks,
soaps, soaks and powders, including shampoo too.

Lesson 10 Harvesting & Drying  
Eating what you grew and creating a few herbal crafts. While learning the garden has grown, it will be time to put
things up to use when the fresh harvest is none. The bounty can teach you new recipes to share with us all and
admire those herbs that lend their wonderful fragrance. Making herbal vinegars, jellies and teas.

Lesson 11 Putting it all together         
Aromatherapy and homeopathic methods and treatments. Tying up all lessons covered, show and tell of Herbarium
you put together during the course. The Herbarium is a binder of pressed plants you have collected and a brief
description of them.

End of Course Celebration Day       
Oral review of all that has been learned and final test. A celebration meal together, certificates of completion. Final
test is for your benefit and knowing that it was learned to earn. No one truly fails unless that chose not to
participate. The final test is checked privately and reviewed with each student individually. Please note that your
final day is longer so that we may share the celebration as a party.

All students will need to plan to attend together  for review, final test and celebration-Graduation. This will be easier for
checking final test and celebration and in the event that there is a vacation weekend for some. If there is a majority that
will be absent on Holidays, the schedule will allow us to be flexible, we will cross that bridge at that time.
